Being a Fashionista Can Be Painful

Many Albanians are quite up to date with the current fashion trends around the world and do their best to emulate them though they are often a year or two late.  On the other hand, some simply go too far.  A simple jaunt down any Tirana street will reveal to you that Albanian women missed the trend that modesty is sexy, so they often reveal as much as they can…sometimes hideously so.

Here’s a prime example.  This still does not tell the story as a video would, so let me explain that this woman does not have an accidental “wedgie.”  That is the actual cut of her shorts.

A metallic pink Porsche Cayenne.  I don’t know who should be more ashamed:  the owner, Porsche, or the entire nation of Albania.

One of the pieces of eye candy in Tirana is the lovely fountain in front of the Taiwan Center just outside the Block.  Recently, the owner of the center decided to empty the fountain and repaint the nozzles and floor in preparation for the summer.

The paint job was finished this week, so they have been refilling the fountain slowly but (potentially) surely.  Apparently the locals (when not behind the wheel) can be patient people because this:

To be fair, this car does not represent the many high end luxury vehicles found around Albania.  Albeit, most of those cars are paid for by dirty money, this car is understandably neglected.

What I find so interesting is not so much the car, but the fact that the front right tire is not flat.  It is in fact partly buried in the asphalt.  One can only guess how this happened.  I’d like to think some not so bright owner parked his car on fresh, wet asphalt rather than the alternative which is that they paved the road around the tire.  Why?  Because 2 workers could have easily moved the car themselves.  In any case, some mysteries are destined never to be solved.

The EuroMax on the autostrada between Tirana and Durres was one of the first major supermarkets in the country which was a good sign of the growth of Albania.  However, there are still some kinks to work out as disorganization and laziness still prevail.

This aisle is supposed to be filled with a dozen or more different varieties of Barilla pasta sauce.  Not today.  Dare I say it?…Inventory Fail.
